Botanicon – “We swear it’s still 2013!”

February 20th, 2014 Posted 12:02 pm

It has been a while since I attended a cosplay meet and I’d had a Highschool of the Dead cosplay for months that I hadn’t had the chance to wear! On the 25th of January 2014 was Botanicon. With a bit of last minute destroying of a black skirt and cutting a fringe into an old wig, I was good to go. Now me and Ethan both have HOTD cosplays! It was more of a casual picnic meet than a photoshoot and despite taking my camera I didn’t really get any decent shots. It was also quite sunny and I got sunburt through the lace socks, which left a weird pattern on my leg. It’s still there now a month later!

MelCosPho 13

February 28th, 2013 Posted 12:14 am

On the 13th of January of 2013, I attended the 13th edition of the MelCosPho meet ups. It was in the Treasury Gardens, Melbourne. The weather was overcast and a little chilly for summer but the clouds made for nice photography lighting.

I went at Ayumu Aikawa (magiclad version) from Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka? (Is This A Zombie?). My boyfriend Ethan went as Takashi from Highschool Of The Dead.

So I was a zombie and Ethan was a character that kills zombies, I thought that was funny and asked Neil to take this shot for us!

Ok now for the serious shots!

I didn’t take a whole lot of photos myself but I’m trying to aim for quality over quantity these days.  I was busy enjoying time with friends, posing for photos or assisting other photographers with their photos.

My cosplay was mostly purchased but I made the hat and painted up the chainsaw from a kids toy. The shoes are from Bodyline. I also was Ayumu to a New Years Eve party the week before, which had an “End of Days / Zombie Apolocalypse” theme, so I got good use out of it! It is most hilarious to tell people that you are cosplaying a boy while wearing a pretty pink dress!

Neil also chose this shot to be in his top 10 for 2012 photos. It feels good to be a part of things like this!

MelCosPho10 – Sayaka Miki Cosplay

My cosplay of Sayaka Miki from Puella Magi Madoka Magica was bought for me by work to wear to conventions.  I also wore it to MelCosPho 10 and my photographer friends got some lovely shots of it. It was a really great summer day and I made new friends. Cosplay in general has been such an amazing experience for me, giving me a place to explore photography, get creative with costumes and meet lots of new people.

Code Geass Meet #2

November 22nd, 2012 Posted 2:17 pm

As the first meet was a success, I decided to keep hosting Code Geass cosplay events! So on March 11th, 2012 I had the “Black Knights” gather at the Melbourne Museum for another afternoon of food, friends and photography.

I cosplayed as “Luluko”, which is Lelouch’s crossdressing festival outfit from one of the picture drama episodes of Code Geass that come as bonus material on the DVD’s  and Blurays.

I may have been somewhat enchanted by a boy named Ethan cosplaying as Zero. We all had fun making Lelouch selfcest jokes.

I very much loved dressing like a ‘princess’. I bought this particular cosplay and while it wasn’t super accurate it’s still quite lovely. I did my very best to try and be ladylike for at least one day!

There are heaps of beautiful photos from this day! Be sure to check them all out!

As I love the series Code Geass, I decided to start hosting cosplay meets specifically for getting together with others that also like Code Geass. So on the 17th of September in 2011, I held my first Code Geass Meet. There was a small group of around 10 people and we enjoyed some picnic food and taking photos. It was really great fun and I decided to keep hosting these events!

MelCosPho 12

October 4th, 2012 Posted 10:35 am

I attended MelCosPho 12 on Sunday the 30th of September at Federation Square, Melbourne.  I didn’t take many photo’s but there was still a few that I pleased with and entered them into the photo competition. Quality over quantity is my new motto! These days I am shooting in full manual mode, which makes me consider my appropriate aperture/shutterspeed choices for the kind of look I want to create. I’m using an old flash unit that was kindly given to me by Neil Creek, which adds another factor for me to consider.

I cosplayed as Luluko (Crossdressing Festival Lelouch from Code Geass). Walking through the city in a giant princess dress gets some amusing looks! Lots of people wanted to take my photo, and I am pleased with what I’ve seen so far!
